Viable device found in Tulla searches

GARDAI in Killaloe are investigating the discovery of a suspicious “viable” device that was found at a house in follow-up searches after two men were stopped outside Tulla, county Clare with  drug paraphernalia and cartridges in the car they were travelling in. While on routine patrol on January 8 at Ballybody, Tulla, Gardai arrested two males, aged 17 and 22, when the items were found in the car. Both men were conveyed to Killaloe Garda station and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

During follow searches Gardai discovered a suspicious device in a house on Main St, Tulla at approx 7.30pm and the area was immediately sealed off and the EOD were requested. The area was declared safe at 11pm and the Main St was re-opened. The device was described as being viable.

12 months ago, five pipe bombs were found dumped in rubbish on a roadway outside Tulla.
