UL HUSKIES captain Michelle Fahy has been named The Irish Times/Irish Sports Council ‘Sportswoman of the Month’ for January 2013.

The highlight of her month was being named player of the match in their recent Super League National Cup final win.

Fahy played a key role in UL Huskies’ 69-59 win over Team Montenotte Cork in the final of the 2013 Women’s Super League Cup, with the Limerick side retaining their title after a close-fought battle.

Captain Fahy netted two scores in the vital third quarter, as well as creating some sublime passing out of the high post and driving her team into a seven point lead going into the final period, which the Huskies saw out comfortably.

After receiving the award for January, she will now be among 12 sportswomen in the running for the prestigious title of ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ at an awards ceremony in December 2013.
