Let’s “Turn Limerick Green”

-

Limerick v Tipperary - Munster GAA Hurling Senior Championship Semi-FinalLOCAL businesses along with Limerick GAA fans are being urged to ‘Turn Limerick Green’ in the lead up to both the Munster Minor and Senior Hurling final showdowns on July 14. In preparation for the big day, Limerick’s Live 95fm, Limerick Post, Limerick Chamber and Limerick City and County Council have teamed up to ensure that Limerick makes a massive effort to support both teams.
With an expected 50,000 supporters in Limerick over the weekend, local businesses, shops and supporters are being encouraged to extend a warm Limerick welcome by decorating either themselves or their windows in Limerick green! Limerick flags will also be positioned at key points around Limerick city centre and county over the coming week. All official flags are supplied by DJ Daly of Team Car Flag Ireland.
Announcing the ‘Turn Limerick Green’ celebration,  Donn O’Sullivan, sports editor with Limerick Post says, “Limerick has such a strong GAA heritage and we hope that the weekend of July 14th can be one where businesses and supporters can have a bit of fun whilst getting behind their teams. The judges will be looking for the most novel and innovative approaches to supporter’s costumes and businesses showcasing the Limerick colours. The more you or your business stands out the more chance you have of winning”, he said.
Fergal Deegan, sales and advertising manager with Limerick’s Live95fm made the point that “Having both our teams in the Munster finals gives us a super opportunity to display the pride we have in our county colours whilst also giving us a reason to celebrate the big day. We hope that local businesses and supporters will put the effort in to get behind the teams and show the visiting supporters we mean business here in Limerick.”
Welcoming the initiative, CEO/manager of Limerick City and County Council Conn Murray said, “We are delighted to offer encouragement to the business and retail community to get behind Limerick and the Council itself will have green and white flags throughout the city centre from this Thursday.”
According to Maria Kelly, CEO Limerick Chamber, “The Limerick experience is legendary on sporting weekends. Limerick shops and businesses can get behind the ‘Turn Limerick Green’ initiative showing support for both our local teams but also giving the visiting fans from Waterford and Cork a true Limerick experience. We at Limerick Chamber in collaboration with Limerick City Business Association are delighted to be playing our part”.
Limerick’s Live95fm facebook site and www.limerickpost.ie will showcase photographs of submitted entries and voting in the three winning categories will take place during the week of July 15 with prizewinners announced on the ‘Limerick Today’  programme on Friday July 19. A Twitter hashtag #turnlimerickgreen has been set up to allow supporters to submit their favourite images during the celebrations.
