Weapons to be destroyed

LETHAL weapons recovered during a number of serious criminal investigations in Limerick are to be destroyed by order of a District Court Judge.

Garda Sergeant Donal Cronin made the applications on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions under the Police Property Act at Limerick District Court last week.

A sawn-off shotgun, a semi-automatic pistol, a Glock handgun, an air pistol, a replica handgun that was modified, a single barrel shotgun and an assortment of ammunition, were the the subject of the Garda application.

With no owners listed for any of the guns or ammunition, Sgt Cronin said that it was the State’s application was to have the guns destroyed.

Judge Eugene O’Kelly said he would grant the applications for their destruction.

A member of An Garda Siochana not lower than the rank of Inspector must oversee the destruction of the guns by a duly authorised and certified body.
