After Dark – Moscow Ballet at UCH

FOLLOWING sell-out performances nationwide last year, one of Russia’s greatest ballet companies, The Royal Moscow Ballet company arrived at UCH Limerick last Thursday evening for their much awaited performance of the classic tale of Cinderella.
With their luxurious sets and lavish costumes this was a must see event for ballet fans everywhere including one little girl, Abbie Shannon from Rath, Murroe who won a competition on Limerick’s Live 95fm to perform on stage with the prestigious ballet troupe! Abbie, who dances with Limerick School of Ballet, arrived with her family including Bríd, Richard Shannon and Miriam Shannon who were all very proud of their little ballerina.
Arriving audience members were in for a treat as the ballet company, founded over a decade ago by Anatoly Emelianov and Anna Aleksidze, began its Irish tour which included performances in Dublin and Cork.
UCH was transformed for the night into a fairytale setting as Cinderella left behind her life of domestic drudgery and triumphed over her evil step mother and Ugly Sisters as she embarked on an exciting  adventure to find her true Prince Charming.
Royal Moscow Ballet Company brought the whole story to life beautifully using a mix of both traditional and more modern ballet techniques with some of Russia’s finest dancers like Ekaterina Florya, Svetlana Lisnyak, Sergey Skvortsov, and Vadim Lolenko taking to the stage with breathtaking results.
This, combined with music from Prokofiev and choreography re-imagined by Anatoly Emelianov, showed the Limerick audience why Cinderella is one of the most popular ballet performances in the world!
