Science/Fiction

THE French Embassy in Ireland with Inserm, in partnership with the Alliance Française of Limerick and the Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD), is delighted to present the exhibition ‘Science/Fiction: a journey in the heart of life’.

Exhibiting at the LSAD library from November 11 to 22 as part of Library Ireland Week and Science Week 2013, it highlights interaction between art, science and literature.

The panels on display are a superimposition of scientific photographs from the Inserm image bank and old engravings illustrating the writings of Jules Verne.

Hard Times

LIMERICK Writers Centre is marking the 100th anniversary of the 1913 Dublin workers Lockout with ‘Hard Times’, a commemoration in song and spoken word, on Sunday December 1.

Dr Matthew Potter of Limerick City Archives will open the event at Flannery’s Bar, Catherine Street at 4pm with a short talk on Labour in Ireland during the Decade of Revolution 1913-23.

Members of the public are invited to add their voice to the event through song or spoken word, with all contributions welcome on the theme of freedom.

The loan of any film (on DVD), photography, paintings and posters commemorating the dispute are also welcomed, to be displayed on the day.

Christmas Fair

THE Hunt Museum will hold its Christmas Fair on Saturday November 30 and Sunday December 1, with Christmas-themed produce and gifts from up to 30 local craftspeople on display.

The event will be preceded on Thursday November 28 by a secret auction, with each contributing craft worker auctioning a piece of work, and this will continue until Sunday 1.

Dr Hugh Maguire, director of the Hunt Museum, said: “Christmas fairs are becoming increasingly popular due to the festive atmosphere they evoke. If you’re tired of commercialism taking over Christmas, then the Christmas Fair at the Hunt Museum will be a pleasure for all the family.”
