GARDAI in Limerick are increasing their intelligence led operations in a bid to combat organised and criminal activity. The latest in garda operations on the Southside of the city has seen Roxboro based gardai from the divisional drug unit, together with gardai from the dog unit and special detectives seize a firearm from a house in the Ballinacurra Weston area of the city.

The seizure was made at 8pm Sunday night last at a house in Clarina Avenue where a 9mm handgun was uncovered. The operation was the latest in the series of intelligence led operations targeting drug trade and organised crime.

The handgun was sent to the ballistics division investigators of An Garda Siochana in Dublin where tests as to the viability of the gun are carried out. It will also be tested for any possible links to crimes or shootings.

A 39-year-old man was arrested, detained and questioned at Henry Street Garda Station under section 30 Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Investigations are ongoing.
