Limerick City Kayaking Tours are offering the experience of paddling on the River Shannon and finding out all about it’s great history and surrounding landmarks. This unique two and a half tour is designed for paddlers of any level.

A sightseeing tour with a difference, it begins with a quick introduction to some safety aspects and kayak strokes before taking to the River to enjoy a mallard’s-eye view of King John’s Castle, the Treaty Stone and many other interesting sites.

The brainchild of Dave Neville of Nevsail Watersports and Rock Climbing, the kayaking tour will show Limerick in a whole new light, giving adventurers the chance to relax and enjoy the abundant wildlife of the River Shannon.

Dave also offers both adult and kids lessons in canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, rock-climbing, power-boating, surfing and in the current craze of stand up paddle boarding.

“There’s an old saying that we turned our back on the river. It’s not used a great deal, so I think it’s important that we use it to its full potential. I have 15 kayaks down in Kilkee over the summer months and with the Shannon on my doorstep here in Limerick, I put two and two together to come up with the idea for the kayaking tours,” the Ennis Road native explained.

“I took a trip down the Shannon myself recently just to explore it and it was just amazing. At high tide, the river flattens off making the tour ideal for beginners. It will include activity as well as some quirky history bits,” said Mr Neville.

Warm winter wetsuits, life jackets and helmets are provided with sightseers asked to bring old runners, a towel and a swimsuit. The kayaking trips take place on Saturdays and Sundays with times dependant on tides and weather conditions.

The experience costs €35 per person. For more information contact Dave Neville on 086-3308236 or email [email protected].
