BH Great Limerick Run gets off the starting blocks

Great Limerick Run 2014 launchTHE fifth annual Barrington’s Hospital Great Limerick Run got off the starting blocks this week with its official launch in the city.

The hugely popular event will go through its paces on the streets of Limerick on Sunday May 4 next. Established as one of the highlights of the city’s sporting calendar, over 11,000 people have already registered for this year’s race over the RiverFest holiday weekend.

Speaking at the launch, race director, John Cleary enthused, “Limerick more than any other city in the country is renowned for its sporting excellence and our objective remains to create a world class running event in our native city. With the support of local athletics clubs, city and regional authorities, the Gardaí, Civil Defence, our sponsors and the people of Limerick, we have managed to create an event that does the city proud.”

This year’s race will include the hugely popular marathon team relay and kids fun run in addition to the Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 6 mile.

Co-organiser of the Great Limerick Run, Cllr Joe Leddin revealed, “We have continued to review and introduce new additions every year to ensure that those participating have a memorable positive experience and the team are delighted it has become one of the largest annual participation events held in the country.”

“The run brings great colour and excitement to the city not just on race day but also in the weeks and months building up to it as every neighbourhood becomes a training ground for experienced and novice runners alike,” said Leddin.
