THE LIMERICK senior footballers are back in National Football League action this weekend as they take on the โ€˜Rossiesโ€™ of Roscommon.
Throw in for the round three clash in Kiltoom is at 2pm on Sunday March 2.
With Limerick having won one and lost one of their opening two games, John Brudairโ€™s men will face a stern test against the Connacht side this weekend.
The Roscommon side, coached by John Evans, are second favourites for the Division 3 title behind Cavan. Their opening round away win over Longford, (0-13 to 0-10) was followed in round two by a home victory over Wexford (1-16 to 1-9).
Having finished fourth in this Division last season, as well as being in their second term under Evans, Roscommon are a settled side who will be a hard nut to crack for Limerick.
Limerickโ€™s defeat to Sligo in round one (0-15 to 0-13) was littered with poor attempts at goal. Several wides made all the difference in the end. That Achillesโ€™ heel was put to bed in round two however as Brudairโ€™s men dispatched Longford in the Gaelic Grounds by six points (2-11 to 0-11).
This weekend Limerick are expected to name an unchanged side from that which took the field against Longford on February 9.
The game in Kiltoom on Sunday looks to have come too soon for several of Limerickโ€™s elder statesmen who have returned to the panel in recent weeks.
Croom midfielder John Galvin has returned to training in the last fortnight and the number nine is progressing well. Stephen Lucey, who played 25 minutes of a challenge match against Galway last weekend, is expected to be named on the bench.
With the futures of Stephen Lavin and James Oโ€™Donovan still in the balance, manager John Brudair is confident of a good game this weekend.
โ€œRoscommon are a big side and they are favourites for this league. They are physically strong around the middle eight of the field, but if we play the way we have been playing, we should give them a fright.โ€
