MAYOR Kathleen Leddin has proposed that the Limerick Protestant Young Mens Association (LPYMA) grounds on the Ennis Road be used as a physical education area for senior citizens.
Speaking at a joint Cultural and Sporting Policy Committee meeting, Mayor Leddin commented, “I am beyond physical education but I think we should utilise the LPYMA grounds as an area for senior citizens.”
Supporting the proposal, Cllr Michael Hourigan (FG) suggested the site be used as a “multifunctional” sports facility with the possibility of a running track. “We’ve been looking for something to be done with these grounds for at least 15 years now,” he said.
Limerick Sports Partnership co-ordinator Phelim Macken described it as a very viable proposal.
