OSCAR Wilde’s most tender story, ‘The Happy Prince’ is subject for this week’s Theatre at the Savoy on Thursday 27 and Friday 28, 1pm and 6pm shows. Michael James Ford performs the “bittersweet tale of a gregarious swallow who befriends a melancholy statue while en route to Egypt.

“The bird helps the Prince to alleviate the suffering of his poor citizens and in doing so, learns profound truths about the nature of love and suffering”.

PayDay Productions in Limerick have brought this gem to us, directed by Bairbre Ní  Chaoimh and designed by Jack Kirwan.

“‘The Happy Prince’ is a one man show with a musical score played live by a musician with Michael James,” confirms Colm O’Brien of Payday. “This will be a very interesting piece. Michael James has been with us previously, directing such shows as ‘Roman Fever’ and Shaw’s ‘Village Woo’. He knows our audience well and plays this in black-tie with a dramatic backdrop – that we are still trying to figure out how to place”.
