It is understood that the fire engulfed the house shortly after noon when it took blaze in the sitting room of the house.

The occupants, a brother and sister, were not injured but damage has been caused to the properties on either side.

Gardai attending the scene have treated the fire as suspicious with a deliberate origin and a man was arrested a short time later.

House to house inquiries as well as further investigations are ongoing while a technical examination of the property has been carried out.

A number of items from the home have been taken for further forensic and technical examination.
