GARDAI are treating as suspicious a house fire that broke out in Croom this Monday afternoon and have arrested a man in connection with the blaze.

The fire, which was tended to by units of the Rathkeale and Kilmallock based Limerick Fire and Rescue service, broke out at terraced house in Cois Má Avenue in Croom.

It is understood that the fire engulfed the house shortly after noon when it took blaze in the sitting room of the house.

The occupants, a brother and sister, were not injured but damage has been caused to the properties on either side.

Gardai attending the scene have treated the fire as suspicious with a deliberate origin and a man was arrested a short time later.

House to house inquiries as well as further investigations are ongoing while a technical examination of the property has been carried out.

A number of items from the home have been taken for further forensic and technical examination.
