UCH began the year with the high kicks of โ€˜Riverdanceโ€™, the concert hall providing box office and โ€˜front of houseโ€™ for the show that sold 17,500 seats. Better still, the event of Bill Whelan’s ย โ€˜Riverdanceโ€™ for the Mid West raised the watermark for City of Culture activity with its impressive scope and vitality.

Under general manager Sinead Hope, appointed October 2013, the concert hall has now released โ€œan exciting, packed and varied Spring programme for 2014โ€ณ. So, what lies ahead?

โ€œFans of the current darling of country music, Nathan Carter, should ring box office immediately if they are not already among the seven hundred people who have bought tickets for his April concert,โ€ Sinead states. โ€œMario Rosenstockโ€™s โ€˜Gift Grub Live 3โ€ฒ comes to the venue for a three day run and Mario promises to break his own box office records with already limited availability for Saturday May 3โ€ณ.

She draws attention to the ย Limerick premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webberโ€™s โ€˜Evitaโ€™ by Limerick Musical Society, March 20 to 23. Booking is underway too for Martin McDonaghโ€™s brilliant, black comedy, โ€œA Skull In Connemaraโ€ on March 28 and 29 as part of Decadent Theatre Companyโ€™s tour.

It was a big hit when in town last year, fearlessly funny and macabre.

Nor is Bill Whelan done with ย us yet. Heโ€™s behind a Gala Celebration in association with RTE National Symphony Orchestra, RTE lyric fm and Sir James Galway on June 21.

Bโ€™twixt then and now? Summer Proms, three more Irish Chamber Orchestra concerts and Ellen Kentโ€™s โ€˜La Bohemeโ€™ on Wednesday March 26.
