Hardenberger has been described as โ€˜the best trumpet player in the galaxyโ€™ by the London Times.

โ€œHe is acclaimed for his performances of the classical repertory and lauded as a pioneer of cutting-edge new trumpet works,โ€ the orchestraโ€™s Assumpta Lawless tells us. Along with Haydn, and Mitchellโ€™s, โ€œhe will conduct Prokofievโ€™s โ€˜Classicalโ€™ symphony, an exhilarating homage to Haydn and Mozart and Ravelโ€™s โ€˜Le tombeau de Couperinโ€™, an elegant and elegiac tribute to friends killed in battleโ€.

โ€œTwo modern marvels bring the programme up to date, Planelโ€™s tuneful and atmospheric โ€˜Concerto for Trumpet and String Orchestraโ€™, and โ€˜Both Sides Nowโ€™, Mitchellโ€™s anthemic love song in a mellow and moody new arrangement for trumpet and string orchestra by Roland Pรถntinenโ€.

This season, young genius Hakan Hardenberger is booked to conduct St Paul Chamber Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Real Filharmonia Galicia, Tampere Philharmonic and the Malmรถ Symphony. Buy tickets for his Limerick programme at www.uch.ie and at box office.
