Marking the way back to Hyde Road

JOE LEDDEN_017COUNCILLOR Joe Leddin (Labour) has called on City Council to give all former tenants of the Hyde Road Apartments beside Colbert Station the option to return to their original homes once refurbishment works are completed.

“Many residents, including members of my own extended family, were asked to leave their homes in the belief that the apartments would be demolished,” Cllr Leddin explained.

“Now the City Council have decided to demolish only a small section to facilitate vehicle entrance to Jackman Park while upgrading the remaining 20 apartments into one, two and three bed units with front gardens and parking spaces. Many of those original residents should be given the option to return to Hyde Road especially those who have not settled in their new houses,” he said.

“The location of the apartments is ideal for elderly people as all the shops and various services, including the new primary care health centre, will be close by. When the redevelopment works are completed, I will be asking the housing officials to give careful consideration to any request from people who would like to return to their former homes,” he said.
