HE didn’t win a seat in the local election but born-again christian Patrick McCarthy is now praying that the 40 newly-elected councillors do the right thing for the people of Limerick.

Mr McCarthy, this week took defeat in his stride, happy that he has God in his heart, and wished the newly elected public representatives the best of luck.

“God has given those elected a second chance. I like the fact that he has shown them mercy and I hope that they will keep their policies and respect their communities,” said Mr McCarthy, who received 65 votes in last week’s local election.

“The people of this country have been let down and deceived. Politicians have made empty promises and I pray they will now do the right thing now,” he added.

The 48-year-old Moyross man became a born-again Christian when he was 19 and claims to have had three miracles performed through him. And, although he was not elected, he is happy to have had the opportunity to spread the word of God on the campaign trail in City North.

Mr McCarthy still holds onto his political aspirations and promises to run for election again in the future.

“I am not going anywhere. There is always next time,” he said.
