Van Morrison to play Limerick

VAN Morrison will play Limerick city as part of Limerick Jazz Festival happening September 25 to 28.

Topping the bill for Limerick Jazz Festival are Morrison and renowned US saxophonist David Sanborn. “Having two multi Grammy award winners in Limerick in one weekend is indeed a rare event in itself and Limerick Jazz is delighted with this,” said John Daly, Chairman of Limerick Jazz.

Morrison has performed and recorded with some of the world’s best including legendary blues man John Lee Hooker, Guitarist Mark Knoffler and The Chieftans to name but a few. Securing ‘Van the Man’ was a huge coup for the festival, with the inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and multi-award winning Belfast born artist set for his first and, most likely, only live performance in the country this year at the Limerick festival. The six-time Grammy award winner’s roots are very much in jazz, with his father George having been a noted collector of American jazz and blues records.

He will set the tone for this special weekend-long jazz celebration with a performance on Thursday September 25 at the University Concert Hall, Limerick.
