GARDAI in Newcastle West are awaiting the results of a postmortem and toxicology tests after a 21-year-old man was found dead from a suspected heroin overdose in an abandoned unfinished house in Croom in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The alarm was raised shortly after 5:30am by a young woman who was also present and found the deceased at the unfinished house at Cois Srutháin.

Emergency medical staff and a doctor attended the scene but the 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains were removed to University Hospital Limerick for further examination and testing to determine the exact cause of death.
