Emergency services are at the scene and the road is closed to all traffic as a result of the incident.

The accident occurred this Saturday morning shortly before 11am when the man was hit by a van travelling northbound.

Gardai have advised that an alternative route is to be taken for those seeking to access the road at that junction.

The injured man is being treated for his injuries that are understood to be serious.
