THE bugle call is out to support Limerick Writers Centre by becoming a financial patron as the centreโs small grant is reduced again for 2015. Essentially this Barrington Street outfit is looking to establish 50 patrons to contribute between โฌ50 and โฌ100 each – not a kingโs ransom at all.
In return there is a 20 per cent discount on new publications by LWC, on workshop fees andย of course, an invitation to all events. There are many works with which this prolific group is affiliated or that are initiated by the members.
For example, LWC operates a monthly literary gathering โOn the Nailโ on the first Tuesday, with an open invitation to meet at Locke Bar. Invited published poets read, thereโs an โopen microphoneโ chance to stand up and read your own works, books and journal launches and a sales table for products.
Piloted by Dominic Taylor, the centre publishes a regular journal of new composition, and many schemes and books are fostered by this not-for-profit collective.
2015 priorities include boosting online resources by commissioning a new website to develop innovative tools for writers.
