Wind weather alert downgraded

weather-alertLimerick City and County Council says Met Eireann has downgraded the wind weather alert to Orange for Limerick and the Munster region.

Met Eireann is forecasting this afternoon that southwest winds will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80km/h with gusts of 110 to 120km/h at times, highest in exposed areas. Winds will veer westerly later. The Orange weather warning is in place until 6pm tonight.

Met Eireann is also warning of heavy rainfall this afternoon and evening with rainfall totals of 25 to 35 mm expected.

Appropriate crisis management teams within the local authority have been monitoring the situation throughout the day.

Limerick City and County Council Director of Services, Travel and Transport, Paul Crowe, said there were no significant incidents in Limerick overnight as a result of the stormy conditions.
