CALLS have been made to extend a scheme that sparked a revival in Limerick city retail trade to smaller towns in the county.
The call was made by members of the Cappamore/Kilmallock district of the City and County Council, after they had been given a presentation on the Retail Incentive Scheme for Vacant Property, which gives rates relief to businesses which move into empty units and has seen almost 400 jobs created in the city centre.
The scheme is being rolled out over the next two years top Abbeyfeale, Kilmallock, Newcastlewest and Rathkeale, members were told.

But while the elected representatives welcomed the roll-out of the initiative, they said that they would like to see some of the smaller towns and villages included.
