HULA HOOPS have been unveiled as official sponsors of the National Cups. The announcement of the Hula Hoops National Cups comes in a period of growth for the sport.  Over 125 clubs from 16 counties are expected to take part in this season’s elite competitions while a new National Intermediate Club Championships will give more Limerick clubs a chance to play at the National Basketball Arena.
Five Limerick teams took part in 2014/2015 from UL Eagles, UL Huskies, St. Colm’s and Limerick Lakers. UL Huskies and Limerick Lakers reaching their semi-finals was the highlight in what was a lean year for basketball in Limerick – seven national titles have made their way back to the city over the years.
“There are 10 national cups catering from U18 right up to our two senior flagship competitions, which will be televised live on TG4,” said Basketball Ireland Sponsorship & Marketing Manager JP Montgomery.
“The National Cups have been a platform for great Irish basketball players and great drama for over 30 years but we feel that Hula Hoops coming on board marks a new chapter for knock-out basketball in Ireland.”

Niamh O’Dea – Senior Brand Manager, Hula Hoops said: “Hula Hoops are delighted to sponsor these fantastic competitions.
“Basketball is one of the fastest growing and most exciting sports in Ireland and Hula Hoops are the country’s favourite take home snack, which make this team a winning combination,” she said.
The draw for the Hula Hoops National Cups takes place on September 23rd, with the first rounds in October and the finals played in January in the National Basketball Arena.
“The Hula Hoops brand is all about their 3D hoop shape and crack crunch texture,” said O’Dea, “which makes it perfect for playing with and we can’t think of a more enjoyable way to keep fit, than shooting hoops.
“Together Hula Hoops and Basketball Ireland hope to promote fun and fitness for all ages because Fun Never Grows Up!”
