Second man arrested over attack on pensioner

DETECTIVES in Limerick have renewed their appeal for information following the attack and robbery of a 89-year-old pensioner in Rosbrien earlier this month.

The appeal comes as Gardai arrest a second male in connection with the assault that attracted widespread condemnation.

Shortly after 10.30pm on Saturday night, August 2 last, the victim was attacked outside her house after she had just got out of a taxi.

She was approached by a man who snatched her handbag, dragged her to the ground causing serious injuries. She is currently recovering in hospital.

The suspect is described as being in his 20s wearing a cap and of medium build in weight and height.

Gardai have arrested a 25 year old man in Limerick in connection with the incident.

The man is being detained at Roxboro Rd Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.

He is the second person to be arrested in connection with this incident. The male arrested on the 3rd of August was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
