homelessnessFOCUS Ireland, a national charity working with those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, is calling on Limerick businesses to take part in a workplace sleep-out on Friday October 16.

Last year, Focus Ireland, which has over 70 projects providing warm meals, practical support and education along with safe and secure housing, supported over 11,000 people.

With an estimated 5,000 homeless people in Ireland, Shine A Light at Work 2015 now sees the charity urging Limerick companies to “give one night to change a lifetime”.

“We are seeing family homelessness on a scale we have never seen before. More than 1,000 children are now living in cramped hotel and B&B rooms, sleeping two and three to a single bed, often not able to get to school, rarely getting a home cooked meal,” explained Focus Ireland’s national fundraising initiatives manager, Rebecca Reynolds.

Limerick businesses are now being urged to shine a light of hope and help these families to get back to a place they can call home. On October 16, staff in Limerick companies, are being urged to bed down for one night at work, in the car park or in the lobby, to show solidarity with these families and help raise vital funds so that Focus Ireland can help them find a home.
