On arrival, the female was talked down and removed from the bridge wall and was initially treated at the scene by HSE emergency paramedics before being taken into the custody of gardai where she was then brought to hospital.

Earlier on Sunday evening, Limerick Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of a fire on Windmill Street when the alarm was raised around 5.30pm.

Three appliances from the service, together with gardai and ambulance personnel attended the blaze at an apartment at Aviary House.

The blaze was brought under control after firefighters spent around 30 minutes at the scene.

It is understood that the fire sparked after a plastic kettle was placed on a cooker.

No one was injured in the incident.
