LIMERICK City and County Councillor Cian Prendiville has decided to get his letter to Santa Claus in early this year and is now calling on local Anti Austerity Alliance supporters to pledge donations to fund his general election campaign.

The AAA is urging supporters to “dig deep, and think how much you are willing to invest to grab this chance to shake up politics in Limerick”. They launched their appeal on the party’s Facebook page where supporters can help pay for its posters.

“You might have seen that the government PR team is in overdrive promising crumbs for people in the budget. Fine Gael activists are being told to ‘prepare for an election next February or March’ – we have to be ready for an election at any time,” the AAA strategists explained.

“We have a huge opportunity to kick out the austerity parties, we just need to seize it. In Limerick, the Anti-Austerity Alliance are standing behind Cllr Cian Prendiville.”

The AAA is looking to get pledges in as soon as possible. The first big expense, they say, will be posters. Each poster plus cable ties will cost €10.

“Can you pay for a poster?” they ask.

Those interested can choose to pay in weekly or monthly instalments before December 18.

“The establishment parties will be putting up thousands of posters, paid for by wealthy donors. The AAA don’t take money from big business and those who benefit from austerity – we rely on ordinary people to fund our campaigns,” the Facebook post claimed.

The AAA went on to reveal that a gas fitter has already pledged to donate the price of one gas boiler service every week between now and Christmas — a total donation of €900. Another supporter received a tax refund and is giving €500 – two-thirds of it to the AAA.

“Maybe you can’t match that, but could you buy ten posters (€100)? Or maybe pledge €5 a week between now and Christmas (€60)?”
