Teen charged with St Stephen’s day burglary

districtcourtA YOUNG Limerick man has been charged with a burglary at a Limerick home on St Stephen’s night, a court has heard.

19-year-old Lee Whelan of no fixed abode was arrested and charged with the alleged burglary of a house in Monaleen last Saturday night.

Whelan has been remanded in custody after the court refused him bail in connection with the offence at a house in Hazel Hall, Monaleen.

The State say that Whelan tried to steal a car from the homeowner after he had earlier taken the car keys during a breakin.

Whelan was distrubed and fled the scene on foot according to gardai.

Judge Aeneas McCarthy remanded the 19-year-old in custody until January 12 when directions from the DPP are expected.
