The fire broke out at an apartment block next to where a similar fire gutted a premises just before Christmas.

This Monday, firefighters, wearing specialist breathing apparatus kits, searched the building and extinguished the fire that had taken hold of the top floor.

Extensive damage was caused to the property but no injuries were reported as the building was unoccupied upon the arrival of the firefighters and Emergency Paramedics.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by Gardai.
