ELDERLY people, especially vulnerable pensioners, are being warned to be extra vigilant following reports of bogus callers trying to gain entry to rib their homes.
Sgt Justin McCarthy of the Henry Street Crime Prevention Office said that in the past week, Roxboro Road Gardaรญ received two reports of bogus callers gained entry to the homes of elderly people to steal property from their vulnerable victims.
The first incident happened at 5.20pm last Wednesday when a man posing as an ESB meter reader called to the home of an elderly woman at Raheen Gardens.
“As he was let into the house, we believe a second male suspect entered the house and stole a sum of cash from an upstairs room” Sgt. McCarthy said.
Later, on the same evening, a similar, but unsuccessful attempt was made to carry out the same scam at the home of an elderly person in Janesboro.
Gardaรญ are asking neighbours and relatives to keep in touch with older people and warn them of the danger of bogus callers.
