State to send accused for trial on endangering Limerick pensioner

district courtSTATE prosecutors have been given until next March to prepare and serve a book of evidence on two men accused of endangering the life of a pensioner and of making a false statement to Garda about a road traffic accident at a city housing estate last year.

Richard Treacy (27), of Gillogue, Clonlara, Co. Clare is charged with dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to a pensioner on April 5 last year.

Ciaran Keane (25) of Claughaun Avenue, Garryowen, is stated to have been a passenger in the car driven by Mr Treacy and is accused of making a false report to Gardaí in relation to the incident.

At a sitting of Limerick District Court this Wednesday, Sergeant John Moloney said that the book of evidence was not yet ready for service after the Director of Public Prosecutions indicated that the case was to be dealt with by way of trial on indictment.

Judge Marian O’Leary remanded both accused on continuing bail to March 11, to allow for the preparation and service of the book of evidence.
