A Limerick love story written up in lights

-

Riverpoint proposal!A PROPOSAL of marriage is something no woman ever forgets but Briain Considine made doubly sure his partner, Jean Connery could look back on the moment and honestly say it was written up in lights.

After four years together, Briain knew that Jean was “the one” and he laid plans to propose on Christmas Eve, but hetook it quite a bit beyond the romantic dinner and candles scenario.

“I wanted it to be very special because she’s such a special person. I basically made up a sign from Christmas lights asking her to marry me and placed it on the 10th floor of the Riverpoint office building.”

Briain, who works for Rooney’s auctioneer’s in the city, got permission to use the tenth floor office and did several dummy runs before bringing Jean up through the city in a horse-drawn carriage to O’Callaghan Strand where his brother was waiting for the signal to throw the switch.

“I had bought the ring and I went down on one knee – she was just shocked but she said yes,” said Briain.

The couple, both aged 31, met through a mutual friend and now live in Caherdavin.

“I had no idea what was going on,” Jean told the Limerick Post.

“We went our for dinner and he said we should walk for a bit. I wasn’t amused. Walking in six-inch heels is no joke. Then he said we were going for spin in a horse-drawn carriage and we ended up on O’Callaghan Strand. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the message. I couldn’t say anything for a bit”.

In a happy ending to the story, Jean recovered enough to say “yes” and she loved the ring.

The pair are currently making wedding plans for summer of 2017.
