Body recovered from River Shannon during searches

THE body of a male has been recovered from the River Shannon this Monday.

The discovery was made shortly after 3pm this Monday during a search for a man who was seen entering the water in the early hours of this Monday.

Searches had resumed for a missing 39-year-old man and it is understood that the body was spotted by the Shannon based Irish Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 115.

The body was recovered from the water at Ballinacurra Creek by members of the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue and the Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue service and the remains of the male were brought to the University Hospital Limerick for post mortem examination and formal identification.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
