THERE’S an open invitation to attend Weston’s West End Community Centre this Thursday January 28 at 8pm to witness the launch of ‘Loss’. A short film – four minutes – ‘Loss’ features this youth club’s members and in fact, was written and performed by them in association with Red Paw Media.
According to PRO for this ‘premier’, Monica Spencer of The Gaff, it’s an exercise of The Gaff’s three year community based arts programme. This is funded with assistance from the J.P. McManus Benevolent Fund, PAUL Partnership, Limerick City and County Council and independent fundraising.
The end story came about through training/ mentoring with Gaff board member Marie Boylan and film-makers Miriam Garcia-Mortell, Jay Reddan and Dominik Kosicki. Participating youth in Weston went through intensive workshops during the October break, each of them on a different aspect of film making such as storyboard, script development, location and cinematography.
As to ‘Loss’s theme, we hear of a “touching story about a Traveller girl who is isolated in grief as a result of her mother’s death. Her classmates don’t seem to understand or sympathise with her.
“Her only solace is the local church where she goes every day to light a candle. In an unlikely turn of events she befriends an older man who also visits the church daily”.
Cast credits go to Maggiemay O’Reilly, Maney O’Reilly, Mayney O’Reilly, Josie O’Driscoll, Nathan Keogh, Laura Roche and Leah Ryan.
Attend the West End Community Centre in Ballinacurra Weston for 8pm this Thursday 28 for more.
