FOR nine-piece urban street-funk outfit Stomptown Brass, a spate of energetic standout gigs at Whelanโ€™s, Vicar Street, Electric Picnic, Longitude and Indiependence has secured their reputation as a band that consistently brings crowds to their feet with funky high-energy original compositions.
The brain-child of composer and arranger James Oโ€™Leary, Stomptown Brass draw on the rich tradition of funk and blues. They add layers of rhythmic and dynamic complexity that reveals itself on repeated listens.
James says, โ€œStomptown Brass hit you over the head with interesting arrangements that blend skillful composition with good-time party music.โ€
The groupโ€™s debut release is the โ€˜Locomotiveโ€™ EP: four tracks from the funky dancehall disco beat of โ€˜Locomotiveโ€™ to the New Orleans twist on an Irish classic โ€˜The Auld Triangleโ€™. Stomptown Brass play on Friday February 5 at Dolanโ€™s, Dock Road.
