A TEN-year-old Limerick boy who suffered the trauma of two car crashes within the space of two months has been awarded more than €60,000 damages at the High Court in Limerick last week.

In November 2011, when he was six years old, the  boy was involved in a road traffic collision when the car he was travelling in with his parents was rear-ended.

Just two months later, Mr Justice Bryan McGovern was told that the young boy had the trauma of a second accident “coming hard on the heels of the first collision” when again the car he was travelling in with his parents was rear-ended.

This, his counsel said, was a “desperate run of bad luck” and something that has left “psychological scaring” on the young boy.

Medical reports indicated that the boy’s soft tissue physical injuries had resolved after a period of time but that there were “ongoing issues” of a psychological nature.

Mr Justice McGovern said that he was satisfied with the offers of €32,484 in the first case and €31,304 in the second case.

Both awards included costs of medical expenses already incurred and Mr Justice McGovern made an order for costs in favour of the young boy adding that the money be invested in court until he turns 18.
