Hosting the concert is The Band of An Garda Siochรกna featuring special guests Unity Gospel Choir, Oliver Stapleton and Brendan Grace who is returning from the US especially for the event.
On hearing the news that a Memorial Concert for the Late Detective Garda Jerry McCabe was happening, Brendan Grace insisted that he would travel back from his home in Florida to pay tribute to โa great friend and a great Irishmanโ.
From Brendan you can expect to hear some of the most requested pieces from his vast repertoire over the last 44 years.
All proceeds from the concert will be donated to Milford Care Centre, ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services, St. Gabrielโs School and Centre, Garda Benevolent Fund and the Laura Lynn Foundation.
Detective Garda Jerry McCabe died in the line of duty at Adare, County Limerick in June 1996.
Inspector Pat Kenny, commenting on behalf ofย the Garda Band, informed Limerick Post Newspaper that it will be an honour to take part in the concert and took time to reflect on the tragic circumstances ofย Det. Garda Jerry McCabe’s passing.
“It is an honour and a privilege for the Garda Sรญochรกna Band to participate in this Concert, heldย in memory ofย the impendingย 20thย anniversary of the death in the course of his duty of our colleague Det. Garda Jerry McCabe.
“When invited by Chief Superintendent Sheahan to participate in this Concert, it prompted us to reflect upon the years that have passedย since that day on ย June 10 1996 when Gerry was laid to rest.
“That reflection reinforced for us the belief that irrespective of the passage of time,ย it is important if not vitalย that we memorialise those who have died in the service of their State, not only for their families or indeedย their colleagues in An Garda Sรญochรกna, but also as a reminder to all of us of the ultimate sacrifices that are sometimes demanded,ย in the service of our communities.
“Weย look forward to making our contribution to this memorial concert and to seeing you at University Concert Hall, Limerickย onย May 26.”
Tickets are โฌ20 each and available from www.uch.ie or direct from the concert hall.
