THROUGHOUT July, Askeaton Contemporary Arts presents the eleventh edition of ‘Welcome to the Neighbourhood’, the open programme of Irish and international artists living and working on site specific works in Askeaton.
As ever, with the open day falling on Saturday July 23 this year, the art works and works-in-progress are accompanied by public events and local involvement.
Look forward to five integrated dates for public interaction, with dates July 19, July 21 and July 23 rooted at Askeaton Civic Trust at 8pm. You will find full detail on www.askeaonarts.com of roundtable talks with artists and curators.
Expect solo slots by luminaries such as critic Chris Fite-Wassalikk from London, curator Claire Feeley of Barbican Centre and Venice Biennale’s Sean Lynch leading a walking tour.
Curated annually by Michele Horrigan, resident artists for 2016 are Fiona Marron and Fiona Reilly from Dublin, Limerick’s Ramon Kassam, and David Bestué of Barcelona.
They will be joined in making art installations the village by Alan Counihan of Kilkenny, Catalina Lozano of Bogota, Filip Van Dingenen from Brussels and Jorge Satorre from Mexico City, Liz Ryan of Limerick and cartoonist Martyn Turner. Each of them has been developing projects as part of our state centenary programme, The Askeaton Commune.
