County Hall

ELECTED COUNCILLORS have voted to increase the local property tax for next year by 10 per cent. After and hour and a half of meetings of party leaders in camera, Fianna Fail and Fine Gael formed a pact so support each other’s position, voting in favour of the increase by 25 votes to 9 at the monthly meeting of the Limerick City and County Council.

Against the move were members of the AAA and Sinn Fein who had wanted to see the tax reduced by 15 per cent, the maximum allowable under legislation
