LIMERICK CITY and County Council members have voted to raise commercial rates by 5 per cent – but an amendment to the bands under which they are charged.

A 5 per cent increase in commercial rates would affect just 10 per cent of businesses, Chief Executive Conn Murray said. “In addition, those who pay on time, will avail of savings”.

The businesses which will be affected by the hike are those which pay in excess of 20,000 euro per year.
A rebate of 4 per cent of rate has been approved for hospitality businesses which don’t already qualify for the rebate scheme in order to protect and promote the tourism industry.
