Basketball – National League Weekend Previews

screen-shot-2015-10-02-at-12-41-39IT’S TOP of the table versus bottom this evening (November 17th) in the Men’s Super League as Templeogue and KUBS BC go head-to-head at the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght.

Templeogue’s winning streak continued last weekend, when they netted six wins from six, while KUBS BC have yet to register a win in the League.

“It’s been a quick turnaround since the game on Saturday, but the lads are recovering well and we’re ready,” said Templeogue’s Mark Keenan.

Elsewhere, there are two other Dublin derbies as UCD Marian takes on Pyrobel Killester while Griffith Swords Thunder welcome DCU Saints. Irish TV Tralee Warriors are home to Commercial.ie Éanna and Radisson Blu UL Eagles face UCC Demons.

Meanwhile, it’s back to Hula Hoops National Cup action for Belfast Star and SSE Airtricity Moycullen as they play the second leg of their tie, after the first round finished 72-71 in favour of Moycullen.

“It’s nice to put the League to bed this week because it hasn’t been kind to us,” acknowledged Star Head Coach, Darren O’Neill. “The Cup game was very tough the first time, we’re lucky to only have a deficit of one point but they are coming to our place, so we are confident that we will play well and will be looking for a win. We know what’s at stake, one win will take you to the semi-final of the Cup, which is a great goal for anyone.”

It’s business as usual in the Women’s Super League this weekend, with all eyes turning to the clash between Courtyard Liffey Celtics and Maxol WIT Wildcats on Saturday evening. Both teams have enjoyed a good run in the League to date, with just one loss each (at the hands of Ambassador UCC Glanmire).

“We’re really looking forward to it,” said Liffey Celtics Head Coach Mark Byrne. “I’ve been happy with our girls, they have come through some close games well, which is great experience for them. They have been training hard so we’re looking forward to it.”

Elsewhere, NUIG Mystics will host League leaders, Ambassador UCC Glanmire, who remain unbeaten so far in the League, while Sunday sees Singleton SuperValu Brunell aiming for a big performance when they take on Portlaoise Panthers in Parochial Hall, and it’s an all Dublin affair as DCU Mercy host Pyrobel Killester in what is set to be a close and competitive game.
