Soldier dies at Limerick barracks

AN ARMY investigation will be completed into the death of a Cork soldier who had been based with the 12th battalion in Limerick’s Sarsfield Barracks.

The 23-year-old was found unresponsive at the Limerick Barracks on Thursday afternoon last.

It is understood that two-star soldier was found at approximately 1.20pm on Thursday in his bed at Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick.

After he was found in an unresponsive state, the soldier was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where he later died.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and an investigation will be carried out for the purposes of the coroner.

The Defence Forces have confirmed that the investigation will be completed expeditiously and that they are liaising with the man’s family.
