UPWARDS of 100 children were evacuated from a Limerick creche this Tuesday morning after a small electrical fire broke out in the childcare premises.

The creche, located on the outskirts of the city raised the alarm with a call to 999 at 11.48am.

Four units from Limerick City Fire and Rescue attended the scene of what was described as a small commercial fire.

The facility was evacuated and upwards of 100 children who were in attendance at the creche were taken away from the building.

The fire, at a fuse board within the premises, was quickly brought under control and a full check of the premises was carried out before the premises was made safe.
