Come to the Hunt Museum to hear a story like no other!

There was a time in Ireland when marriages were arranged and a dowry was usually and essential ingredient. So without a dowry, a girl’s prospects of marriage were much reduced.

One such girl was Mary Hickman, daughter of Thomas Hickman of Brickhill House, (Cratloe), County Clare. Fortunately her luck changed when arguably Ireland’s most eligible bachelor came along. He was just 40 years of age, had a title, and much much more.
