Skilled workers, such as plumbers, fitters and welders are set to get a bump in their pay, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Deputy Tom Neville, member of the Business Enterprise and Innovation Committee of the Oireachtas, was speaking following the approval by Minister Pat Breen for new pay rates, that will apply to approximately 10,000 skilled workers employed in the Mechanical Engineering Building Services Contracting Sector. The Sector covers craft workers such as plumbers, pipefitters and welders.

Deputy Neville said: “I’m delighted to see these skilled workers and contractors get a much deserved pay increase.

“The work they have done has been invaluable in helping this country get back on its feet and I’m glad that their efforts have been recommended by the Labour Court and approved by Government.

“While the economic recovery remains fragile and cannot be taken for granted, we now have it in our grasp to make Ireland a country where our people can once again prosper, work, start a business, raise a family and grow old with dignity.

“Through my work in Leinster House I will continue to advocate for my constituents to ensure that Limerick continues to receive the public and private investment it needs to drive the region forward,” Deputy Neville concluded.
