Deadly weapons seized in Limerick drug raid

Some of the knives seized in during a Garda raid in Limerick in 2018.

SWORDS, hatchets and lethal knives used to threaten drugs dealers and addicts over debts have been seized by Gardai in raid on a Limerick drug den.

A Samurai sword and several hatchets were seized earlier this month when gardai targeted a criminal gang operating in the city.

The weapons and a small quantity of drugs were seized in the first raid on a property linked to the gang while a second raid on a property was carried out two days later where two hunting knives were seized.

Gardai say that the seizures and the resulting disruptions caused to organised criminal activity were significant but not without the belief that the gang has access to a further arsenal of weapons including guns.

While no arrests were made in connection with the seizures, Gardai are continuing to investigate the activity of the gang and a number of key individuals with previous convictions who are understood to have joined alliances with members of a major Dublin criminal gang.
