A LITHUANIAN truck driver with an address in Limerick has been charged with allegedly importing €1.8m worth of drugs in to the country in a truck over the Easter weekend.
The Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, together with revenue officials at Dublin Port, made the seizure during a joint operation on Easter Saturday.
Alvydus Simkus (55) with an address at Smiths Lane, Cathedral Place, was arrested during the operation where the truck, bound for Limerick, was stopped and searched and significant quantities of cocaine and ketamine, were discovered.
Mr Simkus appeared before a court on Monday and was charged with the alleged offences and remanded in custody to appear again in court later this week.
