Firearm seized at Limerick train station

A vicious and violent feud, which has erupted several times over the past year, is ongoing between rival groups in Kilmallock and Charleville, North Cork.

GARDAI in Limerick have intercepted and arrested a man who was armed with a loaded gun and extra ammunition near the city’s train station on Monday evening.

As a result of an intelligence led operation, Gardaรญ from Limerick city stopped and searched a 25-year-old man, in the vicinity of Colbert Station, and found him to be in possession with a loaded firearm.

The firearm (subject to ballistic examination) was located in a backpack along with some loose ammunition, according to a garda spokesperson.

The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Roxboro Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 30, Offences Against the State, Act, 1939/98 as amended.

Investigations are ongoing.
