MUNSTER MEP Liadh Ní Riada is to host a major conference on education in Limerick Institute of Technology this Saturday, June 9.

The Sinn Féin politician, who sits on the EU Culture and Education Committee, has assembled a panel of European experts to speak on a broad range of topics within the education sector.

“Equality in Education is the theme of the event. Not just equality in terms of access to education and opportunities in later life, but equality for educators such as those more recently qualified teachers who are facing blatant pay discrimination.

“We’ll be looking at language equality, including everything from the Irish Language to Irish Sign Language as well as examining issues such as the rights of special needs students, school drop out levels and discrimination at both a grass roots and policy making level in a series of seminars,” she explained.

The event will include expert speakers from across Europe from various trade unions, schools, advocacy groups and political backgrounds. While the keynote address will be from Dr Susan Weir of the Education Research Centre.
